Marla Tawlks

Elementary Humanities and Math

Marla loves the John Adams Academy community. She’s been a part of it for the past 11 years and is excited to meet the needs of the Online families and show them how wonderful JAA is!

After one year teaching 1st grade, Mrs. Tawlks began teaching Kindergarten and fell in love with that grade level. Mrs. Tawlks currently teaches Kindergarten for the online program.

She is excited to work for the online program to offer families yet another option as a school of choice.   Her daughters have both attended JAA, and that was the reason she originally came to work for the Academy.  She wanted to work at the school she had chosen as the best option for her family.

Mrs. Tawlks shared two classic stories that have inspired her teaching career:

The first one is The Big Hungry Bear by Don and Audrey Wood.  This was the first book Mrs. Tawlks learned how to read when she was in kindergarten.  It has always been her favorite story because it was the story that catapulted her into the world of reading!

The second book is Matilda by Ronald Dahl. Mrs. Twalks read this book when she was in 4th grade.  She adored her 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Davis.  It was clear that Mrs. Davis loved teaching and loved her students.  When she read Matilda, she was moved by how much Miss Honey cared for her scholars, much like Mrs. Davis.  From then on, she knew she too wanted to care for scholars and would be a teacher.
