James Haskins

Secondary Humanities

James Haskins feels fortunate to have been a part of the John Adams Academy family since 2013. While he has been in education for 24 years (as a teacher and administrator), he has spent nearly the last decade with John Adams Academy. Mr. Haskins carries the unique distinction of being the only teacher in our Online program to have taught elementary, middle, and high school, in both person and online. He was also the Assistant Dean of Secondary Education for three years in an in-person John Adams Academy program, before moving to the Online program.

Originally from Oakland, CA, he has lived in several states and countries (Italy, Greece, Germany) thanks in part to his time serving in the United States Air Force. He earned a bachelor's degree from CSU Sacramento, a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University and possesses a multiple subject teaching license as well as single-subject authorizations in History and English.

In his spare time, he can be found hiking, swimming, playing the ukulele, or reading a good book. One of his favorite classics is “Brothers Karamazov” by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Mr. Haskins absolutely loves the Vision and Mission of John Adams Academy and feels strongly that the 10 Core Values closely model his own personal values. He loves teaching the classical model, focusing on reading, writing, and speaking, and looking forward to challenging, yet rewarding time with scholars.
